Muslim Must-Know: The Prophetic Sirah (Biography) Section

This section outlines the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from his birth to his passing. He was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, orphaned at a young age, and cared for by his grandfather and then his uncle Abu Tālib. He worked as a shepherd and trader, traveled on trade journeys, and married Khadījah (RA) at the age of 25. At age 35, he resolved a dispute during the rebuilding of the Ka‘bah by placing the Black Stone with fairness. At 40, he received revelation in the Cave of Hirā’, beginning his mission of prophethood. Early revelation started with visions and the first verses of Surat al-‘Alaq. His da‘wah was first private, then public, facing severe persecution until the emigration to Madīnah. He lived 13 years in Makkah and 10 years in Madīnah, where major acts of worship were legislated and important battles took place, including Badr, Uhud, Ahzāb, and the Conquest of Makkah. His most important companions and family supported him, with Abu Bakr, Khadījah, ‘Ali, and Bilāl among the first believers. The Night Journey (Isrā’ and Mi‘rāj) occurred at age 50, during which the five daily prayers were prescribed. He passed away in Madīnah at age 63, leaving his Ummah upon a clear and straight path, guiding to all good and warning against all evil.
